| wildman102408:07 UTC03 Jul 2007 | I want to have internet access where ever there is GSM or WiFi. I don't want to cart a laptop/notebook around. Just something the size of a PDA or phone.
Generally I'd like to access email but I'd also like to access information about places to see and things to do at whatever location I might find myself. Once I've found the information I want to save it for later access in case I travel out of GSM/WiFI range.
It would also be cool to have a GPS built in so I can find things (and myself ) quicker.
Service access costs are not a problem for me.
Does anyone have any experiences with this sort of thing that might help me?

| wildman102408:13 UTC03 Jul 2007 | Oh! I forgot - I also want to be able to update my blog (photos included) to keep in touch with home about my travels.
If a camera was built into my phone (or whatever) then that would be convenient but I guess some sort of interface to a seperate camera will do.

| wildman102410:30 UTC03 Jul 2007 | What is it?
| 3 |
| mkral10:38 UTC03 Jul 2007 | Radson has got to be talking about this.

| wildman102411:05 UTC03 Jul 2007 | How could I not know about? :)
Trouble is, as he says, it's not much use to anyone outside US.

| rayonline13:25 UTC03 Jul 2007 | Nokia N95 - has GSM and GPS has video chat calling cellphone. Can be paired to laptop or might be able to PDA as well but not sure. But by itself you can surf the web and email right on the phone. GSM so can take diff simcards as you travel or just roam if you are not using much or want the convenience.

| mkral19:06 UTC03 Jul 2007 | Rumor has it that T Mobile is supposed to be announcing soon that they will be releasing the iPhone in Europe in November. Don't know if it's true or not, but that's the latest rumor. (supposedly the announcement will come on Monday. I suppose that the good thing is that when the iphone does make it's way to your area of the world, you'll know (at least here in the US, Apple/AT&T have been spending an obscene amount on advertising.)

| wildman102422:29 UTC03 Jul 2007 | thanks
iPhone is just too much if, buts and maybes for me.
I'll check out the Nokia N95.
Any other options out there?

| slaw33310:42 UTC04 Jul 2007 | I've just bought an Ipaq Travel Companion rx5965 which is a PDA with GPS, wireless and bluetooth. No phone or camera, but it does have an SD card slot so if your camera uses SD, you could copy from the card to the PDA.
I bought it for a 7 week trip in Europe mostly for the GPS (TomTom software) for when we are driving around and I hope the other features will be of use. eg. I hope to hook into the car audio via bluetooth to play MP3s while driving.
I'm not sure how often we'll get wireless access, hopefully often enough to get and send emails, maybe use Skype.
Our camera takes CF cards, so unless I get some other device (or upgrade the camera), I can't easily transfer photos.

| timmyboy7115:12 UTC15 Jul 2007 | #10. How do you like youir Ipaq?

| slaw33313:27 UTC16 Jul 2007 | The ipaq is a neat toy. Haven't really used it in anger yet. I can give a better answer after our trip.
So far, I should be able to:
use it as a gps in the car with tomtom and off-road with oziexplorer play music on it get on the net use Skype (tested it and it works) listen to internet radio view photos and videos off my camera have photos of home to show the relatives update a blog currency conversions world-wide weather and time store contact information store phrase books
Just hope we don't lose it!

| superlufti200017:19 UTC29 Jul 2007 | wildman1024; you wrote us that you want to do whatever you like at any time with gsm or wifi, with a phone or a pda not a laptop. then you are talking about "information" you want to read and store for later.
does "information" means accessing websites? you can use a phone to look at a website but you would not really like to do that for a long time on a 4x4 centimetres display?!?
maybe you can split things up as i would do:
blackberry is good for receiving emails laptop is good for the display of websites phone is good to talk to others or to do very simple internet (browsing) tasks and/or to send text messages
but all at once at any time any place. it sounds tremendeous, your post. whenever you find an answer or right device, you let me know!
cheers

| rajulkabir19:24 UTC29 Jul 2007 | Been shopping for a similar thing. Settled in the Nokia E61i, it seems to have everything I need:
- QWERTY keyboard - Wifi - 3G - quad-band GSM - SIP client for free VoIP phone calls - plays streaming audio - highly-regarded web browser - IMAP mail - view and edit Word/Excel/PowerPoint files - a couple of good SSH clients.
US$390 in Singapore, bopping back down there to pick one up next month.
