Or... I coulda done what I did and not wasted all your time. My comatose machine had a 2Gb piece in it. Works fine in the Acer. Wish the other hadn`t died though.

On top of everything, I resurrected the dead one for at least a while. Jiggled the hard drive in the case - it appeared that it wasn't registering...
