so I win a couple of songs from itunes from the cocacola music promotion - download my free songs, and find they are in m4p format. Sine I don't have an ipod, what's the easiest way to convert these files to mp3 format??

Probably simplest to use iTunes to burn them to a CD, then re-rip them.

(OTOH, keep wasting CDs like that, and you'll never be able to afford an ipod)

zamzar.com/

Meddler: Not everyone wants an iPod.

Stirk: I'd be amazed if that works with tracks from iTunes. Kiwi, let us know!

But, if using Lan's suggestion you use a rewritable disk, that's a good option.

That Zamzar thing looks cool but I'm kind of skeptical that it would work in this case, too. I use dbpoweramp to convert files all the time and I highly recommend it. They have been forbidden by Apple to allow conversion codecs for m4p so I had to do what Lan suggests on #1.

In the end, I just bought the song again on one of these quasi-legal russian download sites. Seems easier than trying to crack M4P, and at 10c its not so bad.
