Hi there,

I'm in the market for a travel bag for my 15" Macbook pro and would love to know what bag you would recommend for a RTW trip. I'm not sure if I should just go for a sleeve type case and put the laptop in my backpack, or if a separate bag would be better. Although having already one backpack on my back, I'm hesitant to carry around another.

Any suggestions?

A sturdy bag ...

Get an extra bag.

You will need some sort of day pack anyway. Plus you don't want to have any valuables in a bag that goes into the hold of a bus or on the roof or as check-in luggage.
15 inch is way to large for back packing in my opinion. I would get something more portable.

Thanks for the advice.

True - re needing an extra bag.

With the size of the laptop, yes I realize it's not the ideal size but I figure I won't be carrying it around all the time (like eg a college student) so it should be bearable .....I hope.

Where will you leave it when not carrying it? In the room? It will be too large for any safety box. You are aware that vast majority of stolen stuff is valuables left unattended in the room?
Good luck.

Get a daypack with a computer compartment in it ... Many, many options for this kind of pack.

for security...will a cable lock work on a Mac?

I always use one with my notebook and it works for me. I was introduced to the idea by a guy that got his vehicle broken into in Turkey whilst he was having lunch. His wife had locked her computer through the steering wheel while they were out. The smash and grab guy just left it there after breaking the window. They still had that computer when they completed their drive to Indonesia.(quite some time later after driving through India, Pakistan, and China)

If lockers are available, I'll opt for that.
Or I keep it hidden in the room somewhere.....
Or perhaps I get a Pacsafe for my backpack and keep the laptop in there.....

I'm not sure, but will consider your advice and keep thinking about my options.

Thanks!

I like this stuff - [http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/]

you can go messenger or backpack and design your own setup / color etc.

The laptop sleeve in some of the messenger bag designs is very good - I carry an 11" Macbook Air in mine but they have a "Laptop Fit Guide" on the right hand side of the page so you can see what will fit your hardware.

They deliver all over...I had mine from San Fran to NZ in under 10 days.
