Lan:
Largely based on your recs here, I bought a Finepix F31fd. So far I'm very happy with it, but I need to buy some xD memory. I can't find a clear spec for type M or type H, so figured you'd know. Also, any pros and cons to buying 2 gig or several smaller cards?
Thanks,
Charley

It'll work with either, but I'd go with type H unless there's a big price difference.
Basically type-H is fast/high capacity, type-M is just high capacity.
I haven't tried a type-M, but I suspect there may be limitations in video recording due to the slower speed.
According to Fuji the Type-H cards aren't compatible with the DPC-UD1 reader, so if you have one of those...
Big card vs Small card is tricky.
Big card has the advantage that you don't need to change over so often, so you're less likely to drop/lose/misplace a card, but if the camera gets stolen with all 2Gb worth of pictures on it... Similarly if the card gets corrupted somehow, then your losses are smaller with a smaller card.
Smaller cards might mean you lose the card as it's not in the camera, or miss a shot due to changing over. Less lost if you have corruption or the camera's stolen though.
I use 2x 1Gb cards if that helps.

this camera is so cheap. Only £120 on Amazon in the UK.
Lan, what do you think of F31 vs the F40?
selfagency: No worries!
mr_rush: The F31fd is an excellent deal isn't it! I haven't used the F40fd, but based on the reviews it looks like the high ISO results aren't as good; probably as a result of going up to 8MP. Since one of the best features of the F31fd is the good high ISO... Based on the reviews, when our insurers paid out for the stolen F31fd, despite the F40fd launch we bought another F31fd to replace it.
mr_rush: Agreed, it would be better if it went down to 28mm, but unfortunately very few compact cameras do. I just stitch if/when it's an issue. Automatic stitching software usually works well without any real need for thought :)

Lan. Thanks to your recommendation I too have just bought the F31fd on Amazon. I was looking for another little p&s to take to the hills and the DP review looks like one of the best I've seen for such a modest camera. I like the low-noise available light capability above all. It will teach me to look a little further than just Canon/Nikon. Thanks ;)
