Are the LP ebook guides the latest edition?
Are they the same as the print version or are they abridged?
Are any of the other guide books superior?

Yeah - Amazon's selling 'em.
Not for me though. I'd rather an ol' fashioned paperback.
Having a Kindle would me feel like a London Underground commuter.
Each to their own - though....

As usual, battybilly rambles on but doesn't come close to answering the question.

I have 5 or 6 LP guides on my Kindle, as well as a Rough Guide and a bunch of e-book only guides.

They seem to be identical to the paper country guides. LP seems to refresh the guidebooks and usually it states clearly when it was published. E.g. I have a Kindle version of LP France which has already been replaced by a new one. i don;t bother updating it as 95% of the info is still accurate but usually the versions available should be the most recent ones.

Where LP fails, and I have complained about this and they say they are addressing it, is that apart from e.g. the Turkey guide there is also an Istanbul guide. However, the Istanbul guide is not the equivalent of the full print Istanbul city guide but simply the Istanbul chapter of the country guide. Same for France where there is a Burgundy, Provence and Paris guide on Kindle but these are just the chapters of the full country guide, and as such, they have less info than print Paris guide.

LP told me they are working on this but keep an eye on this. Fortunately you can always return any Kindle order within a week (which I have done a few times with guidebooks)

Rough Guide is OK too, I believe there are fewer titles available.

There are tonnes of other guides available. Many of the, in particular the ones published by Mobile Reference, are just straight copies from Wikipedia. They are often very cheap- a few $ max. As usual, you get what you pay for- they have their uses but are not real guidebook, they are extremely inconsistent, and not edited in any way so there are errors, and some chapters will be detailed, others won't.

There is also lots of self-publishing and again, there is a lot of shoddy material. Removing the threshold for publishing has its uses but not everybody is a good guidebook writer. I still believe in professional content and LP and RG are far superior to any of the other guides. Again, don;t hesitate to ask for a refund, which Amazon is very good at- amazing customer service.

Go to Kindle shop, choose your guidebook and read readers reviews - you are up to shock!Try South Korea or Japan.
Kindle version is not the same as printed one,I am talking about LP.
It is better to buy pdf from LP on-line shop,you can read them on your comp and in your Kindle;
they are not locked to your device and they are not kindle versions which are apparently - trimmed.
Readers complain about maps and contents, read yourself you will know.
