...what would it be?

A repost here from the AATT branch - I'm particularly interested in this branch's input as you're a bit more tech-oriented...

We're building a new community site. Part of that will be a revamp of Thorn Tree, so we want to know what additional features you'd like Thorn Tree to have (some are already listed here). If you use any other forums, we'd love to know what you like and hate about them (and if you know, what software they use).

But we don't just want to rebuild this forum, we also want to do a whole lot more. What do you wish you could do on the Lonely Planet site that you can't do now? What other community sites do you use (blogs? MySpace? Flickr?) - which ones do you like or hate, and why?

We're really keen to have as much of your input as we can get. If you don't like it, you won't use it, and then we'll be sad.

Use Vbulletin as the forum software. Lots of options.

A TOS violation button.

Not so much for this forum....

Hi,

I sent you a PM...

Would be nice to be able to include photos in posts. Also, I've come to appreciate forums where you can see the person's join date and #/posts alongside each posting, because it makes picking out hit-and-runners and trolls much easier.

Embedded thumbnails which link to an external website (Flickr, Smugmug, whatever) might be nice.

Make them large enough so that one can see the content, keep them small enough so that they don't take too much time to display (and save you storage space).

Don't use those pale colors and small fonts like on the newer parts on the site, the new search and haystack. They are hard to read on some monitors.

Both the current TT and the newer parts of the site have some serious flaws regarding the use of web standards, graphics and fonts. It makes them slower to load, less accessible and harder to use.

Read Steve Krug's "Don't make me think" as a starter to web design, not only for your programmers but for the people who manage the budget, so they understand what the programmers are doing well and what they are doing badly.

It would be nice to have some control of your posts after you make them, like the ability to delete stupid ones you may make.

yes - use vbulletin (but only small text for signatures (& no pics))

option for persistant login

no auto deletion/archival of "old" posts
