| chris1200:21 UTC02 Jul 2007 | I downloaded an emailable form which I completed and returned. That was the easy bit. The recipients have received it but cannot open it and are asking me to send it as a word document. How do I do this? Bear in mind I haven't got word on my home computer (I used openoffice). If I emailed it to my works computer I still need to know how to change it. Any thoughts?

At worst try Rich Text Format (RTF) which is compatible with Word & OO

If you just 'save' - the OO saves files in its own native format (.odt)- which MS office cannot open. But OO Writer also allows you to save in a variety of other formats. When saving the file - use 'save as' - and then in 'save as type' choose the .doc format from WinXP (which is probably the one you want) . It will give you a screen about possibly losing certain format layouts - just accept that. (And while I'm at it - the same for things like the OO Spreadsheet - Calc - use 'save as' and choose .xls
Somewhere - in preferences if I remember - you can make using .doc & .xls the default.

Those are the options on the "Export" screen... If you ever need to make a PDF from a document, you can use Export...
