There are loads of very sophisticated satnavs on the market, but is there a very basic one, just telling me distance travelled and time elapsed. I will be doing a lot of walking over the next year and I just want a basic but accurate record of my travels. Oh, and I'm based in UK.

Cheers

Google for gps logger, that's what you need, above is one of the many. Check and compare. In particular you will have to pay attention to battery life and number of points that can be recorded.

There are apps for cell phones as well but battery life is limited.

If #1 doesn't suit you look for a basic black and white, trekking GPS.

Be careful with those basic trekking GPS units, a lot of them are very limited in terms of track recording. Some allow only 500 or 1500 points per track, that's not a lot.
So make sure to check track recording capabilities.

Pro is usually they do have good battery life.

Hi,

I was using an eTrex euro (the model before the H)
It' a basic one but it could be enough for you.
It's a "limited" one but for basic use it's enough.

Had a basic eTrex since 2000 - basic, but fine...

Battery life is much improved nowadays.

The more basic eTrex should be the eTrex 10.
