I would kindly get an advice, if we should take a GPS (a Garmin etrex, I guess)on our bicycle-tour to the Pamir HW, part of the KKH, and the "desert road" from Kashgar in direction of Xi'an (don't know how far we'll get, anyway).
Are there "semi-legal" download-able maps for that region?
Until now we were fine with paper-maps.

And: who can recommend a good solar-charger, who takes AAA-batteries as well as different connections to mobiles, GPS, mp3-player, ebook-reader.
Thanks for help!!

Hi I don't know about solar powered chargers but if you have bikes you may consider using a Dynamo powered charger which defiantly exist and are probably more reliable in terms of reliable generation of power. Have a look at some of them to see if you can find something like what you need.
Good luck and keep us updated.

And i don't like throwing a curve ball, but don't forget that cold temperatures at altitude can effect a batteries performance.
