Strange. I haven't knowingly changed any settings and it has worked fine for about 4 months. I tried to send a text message and failed - I get the error message 0x80042108 which, apparently can be solved by playing around with my Norton Firewall - except I don't have one... Any thoughts?

I was having problems logging into gmail last week. I thought that gmail was the problem, but it turned out to be Safari. I switched browsers to Firefox and was able to login. Perhaps try switching browsers for the time being.

Thanks for the feedback. I can see it on my browser (firefox) but normally it downloads the messages into outlook. For some reason, it stopped doing this. Not sure why.

installed any new anti-virus software lately? some of them have email filtering capabilities, and they do that by placing themselves between your email client and the outside world. usually they screw up, and you can't access email ;) norton is the #1 guilty party, but avg does it occasionally too.

I did some reading last night on the gmail troubleshooting page. They suggested clearing my cache and cookies. I cleared my cache (wary of deleting all my cookies) and nothing changed. I booted up this morning and hey presto, it works. I don't know whether it was clearing the cache wot did it, or whether Gmail realised that LAN was looking into it and gave up without a fight.
Thanks all!
