Unfortunately the Sanho Hyperdrive Colourspace is out of stock right now. Well at least the case is.. Not sure whether to use a 500Gb disk from another case or to get a SSD for it. They say its 1-2 weeks away, luckily i don't need it til June.

Also tempted by the cloudFTP, but really want the memory card backup capability, without the laptop option.

not too sure about Hardrive vs. SSD drive

SSD drive has NO moving parts - it's like the USB memory stick so its more durable. Normal HDDs have spinning platters of magnetic media which is susceptible to knocks and bumps. SSDs are quite expensive compared to normal HDDs and SSDs don' t have the same high capacity like HDDs. However, they are faster and more durable then HDDs and are best suited for travelling.

I have a 64GB SSD drive which I mounted in an external case and I connected this to my laptop via USB port. It's an old drive out of my Dell Mini 9.

Check on user reviews before you get a SSD; I just got one for my new desktop (for OS and photo editing software, rock and roll it is, no more PC for me with HDD only...), went for a more expensive one later on as the one I had first choosen had a lot of problems (plenty of dead drives after just a few months of use due to manufacturing problem of first batch).

Do you know if the colorspace hyperdrive takes SSD drives? Or where I can find a Nexto Hyperdrive - casing only? I am trying to find out how much it would cost if I buy the casing and a separate SSD drive... The only place I can find in the UK that sells these Hyperdrives is Amazon... and on there I can find the colorspace casing only - but can't find out if it takes SSD drives... and I can find the nexto hyperdrive... but they are all 250GB, 500GB... etc not casing only...

Seems to work, depending on SSD:

Your download speed won't be faster however:

Some SSD don't work however:
