Yes definitely. But you can not access Facebook.

Not sure where you are travelling in China...sand???
You should have at least a clear screen protector on the iPad. As for a protection case, it depends on your preference but for me, I have a case that protects the back and front of the iPad (unlike the official Apple magnetic front covers). This provides sufficient protection for day to say use, light rain and such.
Can confirm #1 you can't access facebook, but for some reason notifications for the ipad app still came through! I could find out why, but don't care that much.
You can get anything in china and its unlikely to cost alot. The biggest hurdle is language.
When in Wuhan I discovered that mobile phone charges go both ways.Unlike other places where the caller pays for the total cost of the phone call, it is shared some how by the caller and the recipient. May have changed but worth asking if this system is stilll applicable. JoyV
