Firstly, to name and shame the brand, we are talking about a SANDISK 4GB EXTREME CF card.

The card is pretty much new, but today after taking a photograph i recieved a message on my LCD today which read 'meomory card failure'. I went to 'play' to view the images, the current photo being 'corrupted data' and unable to view. The previous months travelling photos are still viewable, but i have tried to download them through a card reader, which was unsuccessfull. I have also tried, unsuccessfully, to delete the corrupted photo.

Have my previous pictures done for, or are they retrievable by other means?

I have contacted Sandisk about the problem, but i am hoping somebody can give me some good news while i await a reply.

Try PhotoRescue and DO NOT write to that card, deleting images at this point is a very bad idea as you risk further damage to the filesystem.

Was your camera set to capture files in RAW format? The camera is just guessing at how many pics you could fit on the card in that format, so you never want to take that last pic, as it could result in corruption. Sorry I can't help more, but I though this might help for the future.

oh the other thing is where did you buy the card. Sandisk are usually very good. Of course there are fakes around without the quality that Sandisk usually provides.
