Hello all,

I am leaving to Ecuador in 39 days and will be in and around South America for a year thereafter. I'm a bit overwhelmed with the process of getting ready and need some help.

I really enjoy photography, but have never owned a DSLR (but made heavy use of the D90's my highschool had).. I am planning on purchasing a camera for between 500-1000 dollars, but I don't know how much the bulk of a DSLR will bother me. There is the option of buying a mirrorless (compact system camera) which feature DSLR like sensors but without the bulky mirror setup. They are significantly smaller. Has anyone here had any experience with them?

Also, how useful will my netbook be if I bring it? Is it hard to find internet (wired or wireless)?

Should I consider bringing a solar charger?

If you are sitting around or sleeping all day not all night maybe good solar will work, if you are traveling all day it won't work.
