I have a wireless router 802.11g which I am currently operating in B only mode.
My 802.11b pcmcia card is just within the range in a particular location in my house. (1-2 bands. 2 when Door is open).
Should I go for an access point 802.11g to increase the range or simply get a better card 802.11g?
Will getting a 802.11g card and operating the router in g mode increase the range?

From what I understand of you post, no.
If you are just within range, then speed will be limited in any case. Even g may drop back to 11Mbps (or less) in poor propagation conditions.

i got a new card 802.11g.
it maybe helped me increase range by 2/3 inches.
even shifting the router 2 feet higher did not help.
then i changed the mode on both router and card to B only and the range increased by 2 feet.
I guess I'll just have to go for a high gain antenna or an access point.
Personally i'd prefer a high gain antenna as its one less device to plug in so 1 less point of failure.
any opinions?
