Hi guys,

I'm travelling across India and Nepal for about 8 months starting mid-April (wooo!).

I was planning to buy a point-and-shoot digital camera for about £150, but my mum has offered to lend me her Sony cyber-shot DSC-T10.

Looking to reviews for this camera, I kept seeing positive stuff but they all said the lens angle was pretty narrow and some suggested it was a bit fragile.

Bearing in mind I am happy to buy a new camera (this isn't eating directly into my travel fund), do you think I should use the Sony, or is it worth it to go and buy a new, tougher camera with a wide angle lens?

Thanks in advance!

Hi.... *neps.

I bought one of these recently....

For the price - and all its spec (masses of it), there's little - if anything, that comes even close.
This is an independent review, so nothing biased - for or against.
You can pick one up brand new right now from various retail UK outlets - for about £135.

Sony T10 shoots very nice photos, you can take it as a back-up,it is small, you can keep it in shirt pocket.

The sony is not very recent, and probably an OK-ish camera. However, for GBP 150 you are not going to get a great camera. So i think it's a wash.

The Olympus mentioned above has much better zoom but is kinda bulky.

Any 150 pound camera wil be better than the T10, it is very old technology.

Bulky?
Are you looking at the same bitta kit?
The sz-10 weighs about 8 ounces and fits in a shirt pocket.

yes, kinda bulky,

at 106x67x38mm and 215g it is substantially bigger than a typical compact like a Canon ixus 220 (GBP 130) which measures 92.2 x 55.9 x 19.5 mm and weighs 141g.

at 280cm3 vs 103cm3 that means the Olympus is more than two and half times the volume of the Canon, and weighs 50% more.

Again, billy, you've proven your ineptitude at dealing with simple, factual information.

batty, i picked the ixus randoly because it is a typical small-sized compact- it's dimensions are comparable to most small cameras. That was the only point- i said nothing about specs.

I said that the Olympus has much better zoom, (and perhaps some other specs) but it's kinda bulky. that's all.

you're ability to go off on a wild tangent and get lost in talking to yourself never ceases to amaze me.

anyway, the Olympus still has a small sensor and as such, is still never going to get you DSLR- or Micro 4/3 quality shots. But I am sure it's a fine point and shoot.
