Travel on a shoestring

Sorry people if this has been asked before but i am seriously going insane

I am looking to go to Europe (i wasn't originally going to this time but i couldn't resist) and im trying to work out transport. Im gonna have about 5 grand total (australian money) for 2 months in Europe. Travelling Italy-France-Britain-Ireland and catching a plane to Spain (plane fare already budgeted for).

Now my main problem is i can't work out how to do the transport. There are too many options.

I am new to the forum and would like to seek advice on travelling from geneva to venice with a cheap rate. I am planning to go on 6th of Aug and return on the 10thi I don't mind if I have to take a train to another city in / around switzerland and take a cheap flight from there. I checked trenitalia and cisalpino trains but the rates are no less than 200 euros. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

We all want to get the europass but I am very confused on how exactly it works and how long the travel times are between countries. Do you need to book ahead for the ferry from Bari to Patra or can you just walk up the day of departure and buy your ticket? We have Eurorail passes (if that means anything besides a discount). Thanks for any help!

Hello all, I was hoping someone would be able to help me out. I am wanting to go from Milan to Marseille around the end of October/ beginning of November. I am trying to get an idea of prices and using bahn.de it says "For connections outside of Germany, a special ticket is required. These offers are not bookable via the internet." - it lists timetables but it doesn't list a fare. I was wondering if anyone knew an estimate of what it might cost? Thanks so much!

Hi my wife and I will be travelling around Italy in September / October and were wondering if there is such a thing as cheap car hire for 7 days in the florence/ tuscanny area? Any advice on how not to spend too much on a car would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks Steve

Hi ppl, will be travelling for approx 6 months through europe in early 2008, just wondering on some advice on which backpack size would be most suitable.
My sister and I are young females, and we not sure on the size, i was thinking around 65litre size. anyone with advice on which pack is best size and comfort wise. Note- we are your typical girls so do need a decent size pack not too small.

I'll be studying abroad in London for a year; what would be the best way to travel about Europe? A rail pass won't help me much, as I'm trying to plan side trips while studying in London, but I'm looking for cheap effective ways to travel about and explore different places. Im interested in finding somewhere affordable in Europe where we can be almost gurenteed to have a white christmas this year. I have looked at Russia but with visa and flights I think it might be out of the budget. Can anyone recommend a good place, which is not a ski resort.

Hello, everyone, there are only 2 weeks left, until i, an 18 year old female, begin a 4 month solo backpacking trip around europe. I am very nervous, kinda staring to regret going. Has anybody ever regretted backpacking europe solo? I am planning on staying with some relatives in a small greek village for 1 month before i officially start backpacking, what if i get bored or lonely sometime throughout my trip? What about homesickness, how do you cope with that.
