I will be traveling through Europe for the first time this summer. I am from America. My plane arrives in London and my next stop is Paris. I will be purchasing a Rail Pass. I have been reading Rick Steves guide book and his map of the rail system does not show a train connecting those two cities. What is the best/cheapest way to get get from london to paris? I also have another question. On the last leg of my trip I am going to fly ryan air from London too Dublin. I saw a very cheap…

Hi Everyone,

I'm planning for my first trip to Europe on 2 May, and just have a question regarding hostels during my month - long visit. My route will take me to Berlin, Krakow, Prague, (possibly) Ljubljana, Salzburg, Lake Como, Cinque Terre, and finally Rome, where I depart for Egypt on 3 June.

How necessary will it be for me to book ahead for good, central hostels in these cities during May? I am on a budget, but am looking at those hostels that may cost a little more, but come highly…

Hi there,
Does anyone out there has some suggestions on where to stop/things to do to bring the train journey from Paris to Spain? At this stage I am thinking my destination in Spain will be Bilboa as I then intend to travel south through Spain to Barcelona and will then re-enter France through Marseilles.

I won't have a lot of time to spend on touring the area between Paris and Bilbao so if an overnight train existing between these points I would probably take it...I have yet to…

Hi everyone,
I am presently studying at the University of Malta. Classes get out on the 15th of June, and My flight leaves from London on July 30th. I want to keep it as cheap as possible, but still have a good time. What should I do? Any ideas are great.
Thanks,
Daniel

I'm flying into Genoa on 15th June with plans to start my Europe Backpacking by doing the Cinque Terre coastline. What is the best way to walk these fishing villages and the cheapest? I had wanted to spend more time than one day exploring each village and swimming and snorkelling as I went, however, the more I read, the more costly this plan seems to be. Is it best to stay in Santa Margherita or La Spezia and just start the day really early? Little help?

Hello, it's me again..

I'll be going to Stockholm for 5 months (Aug 2008-Jan 2009) as an exchange student to Stockholm Uni (for my other degree). I have just begun preparations and am wondering about the more specific, up-to-date info regarding my budget.

  1. This link - http://www.studyin.sweden.se/templates/cs/CommonPage____4967.aspx - suggests 6500SEK for a month, though this is based on 2006 prices. It suggests 2500SEK for accommodation, 2400SEK (!!!) for food, 500SEK for local…

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to study Spanish in Salamanca for a month in July 2008. The University offers dorms (shared by 2) for 640 euros a month, which includes 3 meals.

I'm just wondering:
1. 640 sounds like a lot.. is this actualllyr easonable? What are rent prices like for a flat/apt near the uni??
2. how I could find such a place
3. Do you think I'd be better off getting an accommodation with a private language school (I've found some for 350euros per month, w/out food)??

Thanks for the…

Hi All,

I will be travelling around Europe later this year. I live in Australia and I am an Australian citizen.
I also have a UK passport and would like to purchase an interrail pass (for EU residents) as it is cheaper for the pass I'm looking at than the non-EU alternative.

So here's the question, am I eligible? I have the UK passport and lived in London for over 6 months last year, but I have since returned to Aus to finish uni. Does anyone know how they "check" residency, is the passport…
