Hi,

I'm traveling from the French/Spanish border to Florence this August. Any advice would be appreciated! --- Here are my questions:

  1. Wild Camping- I know there isn't much 'wild' to be found in these areas, but if I might find it anywhere from southern France to the Italian coast, where would it be?
  2. Transportation- Is my cheapest bet to suck it up and get a train from a larger French city to Florence? I welcome any more options- buses, ferries, carpooling, walking, etc.

I have a bit of…

My wife and I traveled half the way across the USA and spent only seven dollars on lodging. The secret is that we converted our truck into a liveable living area. We have electricity from a solar generator. We use a solar shower and solar oven as well. Check us out on our blog at http://greendockin.blogspot.com . Hopefully, you will get a lot of great ideas. Please feel free to drop us a comment. I try to answer all questions as soon as I can.

My husband and I are planning to do a 1.5 - 2 month tour of Europe next year. We would be leaving and returning to London, and eventually permanently settling in Edinburgh (we are from New Zealand).

We were wondering whether it would be more cost effective to buy a second hand campervan when we are in London, insure/maintain it etc, and then sell it when we get back to London/Edinburgh. OR would it be easier and cheaper to hire one (say through Wicked) for that length of time (around 50 days).

"With heart pounding and stomach churning, I slowly swung the door open as both a pungent odor and the full realization of what had occurred washed over me: this wasn't just a random break-in. My home had been burglarized, vandalized and thoroughly trashed by a "traveler" I connected with via the online rental agency, airbnb.com."

Sorry to be a traveling buzz-kill, but this really did happen to me. And my hope is that by sharing my awful story, others out there will be cautious, careful, and…

I have now outlined a general idea for my 6 month tour but am in the process of working out how much time to allocate (roughly) to each country.

The countries (In the order i plan to visit them & spend time) are as follows;

Malaysia ~ 2 weeks
India (Delhi Only) ~ 1 week
Nepal ~ 1 week
Thailand ~ 1 month
Cambodia ~ 2 weeks
Vietnam ~ 2 weeks

Dear kind readers / fellow travellers!

I am currently in second place for a competition run by Camp America. If I win, they will send me to America (I've never been and would LOVE to go) to visit my girlfriend who is out there with the Fresh Air Charity, working with under-privileged children from New York for 3 months :). Camp America will pay for us both to go travelling for 2 weeks - talk about travelling on a shoestring haha!

If you have a spare minute, I would be incredibly grateful if…

Hi all
Have spent a long time on this forum and others to plan our RTW trip in a couple of weeks (eek! Must calm down getting vv excited now) and haven't come across mentions of the YHA (apologies if there's loads of posts!). Found out yesterday that if you join them for £20 (joint membership) you can get a discount on hostels and loads of activities etc. I appreciate that most of you probably know it and it seems so obvious but it'll be really good way of saving a bit of cash. Not sure if it's…

Hi fellow travellers,

we are looking for the perfect destination, but it’s not easy !
We only have two weeks in Jan or Feb and would like to combine a beautiful, not crowded beach, preferably with some snorkelling, with nature and/or culture, travelling on a low budget (we don’t need any luxury but it’s important to feel safe).

Any ideas ?
Cheers
d

Hi Folks,

I am a 22 year old man going to be finishing school up this coming April. I have an itch to go backpacking somewhere but not the money to do the full Europe trip that I want. I don't know where I should be looking to go, so I thought I should ask for some suggestions.

I love history and going somewhere with some good food and adventure is a must. Also, generally safe area is also a prerequisite. I can't really say what my budget is going to be but I hope to spend near 3000…
