I need to get out and go for a wander, but, as you all know, money is extremely tight. I am looking for some good ideas on countries that are a good deal against the dollar now. I guess any good deals on plane flights out of Los Angeles would also be a big help. I am a broad-minded, low-budget, highly experienced backpacker so no countries are out of the question. Thanks
I don't think it's not the right question, Stinkey. I presume what you want to know is which countries have a low cost of living compared to the US. Is that what you want to know?
Is this a cross-posted question? It had half a dozen answers already. Either it's on another branch or they've all been removed.
My answer. This would only be of use if there are two countries of equal interest to you and costs then became a deciding factor in choosing between them.
i"d rather spend a month in Switzerland than 6 in Thailand personally. An example of why interests outweigh cost. There are lots of countries where travel is cheaper than in other countries. However, if they don't interest you what's the point of listing them?
I think it IS the wrong question.
Asking one question doesn't necessitate it being the sole factor in decisions. This is something you have to learn.
Combo of cheap to get to from LA and cheap to travel in will be Mexico or some parts of central america...esp.Guatemala or Nicaragua.

Argentina was one place where my dollars were spent well. Hostels, hotels ,food . All were very very cheap compared to the US and very good.
