Hello all,

I intend to travel Europe working as a chef. Two reasons for this; I love to travel and to learn all I can about different cultures to broaden my mind, and the second, I want to learn authentic cooking from different regions.

I already work in the UK as a chef and have extensive knowledge, but want to learn as much as I can from each country I visit. I am no novice at travelling, but European countries I have only really ever visited on holidays, and realise it can be expensive. Has anyone any advice on working their way round?? Any advice is helpful.

I may start in Italy as I have Italian family there, but I know there region is hard to gain work in, so this may not be possible.

Cheers, happy travelling

of course Italy because thats where you learn to cook properly. If youre prepared to work for free its possible to then find a resturant that has an excellent reputation and ask them....they wont trust your cooking because youre English,of coures but if you are willing to wait and learn you will get your chance and itll be wonder ful...buon viaggio

What languages do you speak? Trying to work and learn in an Italian, French, etc. environment is not going to be easy if you can't speak the language. Jamie Oliver might be able to travel around in a van learning about regional cuisine, but you aren't Jamie Oliver with all that implies.

Thanks Lindy, I am from an Italian family and have quite a background in Italian cooking, but want to broaden that regionally around Italy, my Aunt owns a restaurant in Cassino and I want to start with her as she is (unbiased view) the best cook I have come across, so I can learn a lot from her, and practice my italian language skills again, then move on from there. This should hopefully give me the necessary experience within the country to allow others to trust me in their kitchen? fingers crossed

Bp, I understand what you mean, however Jamie did the same when he was young and before he was famous, I was thinking of working as a KP in kitchens first to pickup on language and learn little things on the side, perhaps showing my interest and enthusiasm, I am not set on working as a chef persay, as long as I am in the right places to learn on the side, I will work as anything.

Thanks guys xx
