Hi
I hope to travel from Quito to Santiago then east to buenos aires followed by north to rio finally fly to bogota or panama and travel north to Mexico. I hope to do all this in 4 months? Is this achievable? What would you recommend as the best mode of transport for this route?
Thanks
John

It is doable in four months but very rushed. You could easily spend a month alone in any of those countries. Depending on how you plan to get from one place to the next will affect your time as well, if you plan on taking buses it will take a lot longer and expect delays.

Doable...yes.

Advisable...absolutely not IMHO.

You will be travelling far too fast...you will spend a large proportion of your trip sitting on buses...and you will be forced to miss lots of interesting things as you won't have time to see them....

As Lucapal has pionted out. You could physicall do the journey bit literally 2 to 3 months will be sitting on a bus just physically travelling and not seeing or enjoying anything. You are looking to do almost all of South and Central America in 4 months.

Travel is a lot slower and time consuming then in Europe for example.

Im 3 months I went from Santiago to Quito via Bolivia and Peru.

On another trip, in 4 months, I visited Argentina, I quickly visited Uruguay and Brazil and the flew to Colombia with a side trip to Venzueala for 1 week. That is just to give you an example of timeframes and what can be done.

All the best no matter what you decide to do

It's doable, but I don't know why you would travel all the way east just to visit Buenos Aires. That is a long trip for one city, just to head up north again. 4 months is a great time frame but I would stick to a smaller area .
