Hi there!
My friend and I are looking into backpacking through Europe some time next spring/summer. We've been looking around, and we'd love to have some ideas as to what to do! We're planning on getting the Eurail global pass, so we won't be limited on which countries to go to. Just thought I'd ask around to see what kinds of things may be out there!
Thanks!

That's a pretty broad question. I might suggest that you pick up a copy of Lonely Planet's Europe on a Shoestring, which is a comprehensive guide to most all European countries. Let's Go, the Rough Guide and Rick Steves have similar guidebooks that might be worth picking up. At this point in the planning, you don't even necessarily need a current copy -- just check one out from your local library, get a good bottle of wine, and start scouring it for ideas and places that intrigue you. A lot depends on what you like to do -- historic sites, great food, outdoorsy pursuits, beaches, nightlife, etc., etc., etc.
Check out the rail pass section of www.seat61.com and www.ricksteves.com, which can give you some sense about the passes. Decisions about transportation, though, will have to wait until you get a better sense for your itinerary. Often, buying point-to-point tickets can work out cheaper than the pass, depending upon how far and how often you are traveling.

there are ALL kinds of things out there! What would you answer to someone asking the same but "backpacking through North America"?
There is no point on writting suggestions if you don't tell us where are you going and what you like. Or at least what do you like, to point you in the right direction.
i.e. rafting at Sierra de Guara (Spanish Pyrenees). But maybe you don't like rafting, and maybe you do not even plan to visit Spain...
