So that I can stay longer in Southeast Asia :)

I'm in the early stages of planning, and it's my first time travelling

I was thinking I would just get a flight there and back, so nothing complicated - and essentially wherever and whenever is cheapest, late April

How do you do that, buy a return to and from different airports? Do you need a travel agent?

Thanks :)

Assume you are from UK so flying from London. Since you don't mention how long you need to travel for, people can't really help you. It's currenty about 505 pounds for cheapest RT to BKK for 60-90 , but perhaps , as you suggested, one way is better. BKK is the cheapest in general to fly in and out of, next would be KL, and Singapore last due to taxes etc. GIven the increase in ticket prices when you go one ways, probably best just to buy a RT to BKK and then get back to BKK for return flight via air asia, bus train etc. You could also buy air only to some place like Phuket using a package tour company . Over the years, there is usually very cheap tickets on Thai in June one way to London, but this is not guaranteed and you must buy last minute. Thai calls them Super SAver fares and this is only in JUNE during the very low season....Again, don't know how long you are going for..

Use this search engine to play around for flights. matrix.itasoftware.com

Hi marywarren101!

Welcome to TT!

The cheapest option will depend on your travel dates and when you book your ticket among other factors. You'll have to look for return fares from your departure point (we don't know it) to several destinations in South East Asia to see which one is the cheapest on your travel dates from your departure airport. Webs like Skyscanner, Kayak or that quoted at the bottom of TravellinAndi post #1 could help you to find it.

A return flight is an option but if you plan to visit several countries in South East Asia it could be cheaper to purchase an open-jaw ticket...

There's a great British website with 'pirate(s?) and adventure or something in its name, connecting to great deals; some time ago BKK was offered for € 450
Here's a comparable Dutch website, e.g. flying Amsterdam - Singapore in May € 550
(or San Diego € 375): http://www.ticketspy.nl

You don't need a travel agent...just a decent website.

You can buy a one-way or an 'open jaw' as mentioned above...most sites have a 'multiple flights' option so you can put in diffrent arrival/departure points.

Agree with #1.....Bangkok is usually cheapest to fly into, followed by KL.

You don't need a travel agent, but sometimes they can be cheaper, so it might be worth getting a quote from one or two. It's normally cheaper to book online these days though.
