Hi,

Me and my girlfriend booked a flight from Belgium ( Brussels) to Bangkok, with a stopover in Moscow, january 30.
Now I've just heard that there will be a national strike that day in Belgium, probably cutting alot of public transportation...
We booked with cheaptickets.be, so I've called them to ask if we where able to change the date, but that will cost us 330 euro's each.
They told me that if there's a strike, that -usually- the people who miss their flight get another one, maybe one day later or something, but get another one for free.
Now, we have the cheapest cancellation insurrance, and it says that they cannot be hold responsible in case of a strike.

Does anyone have any experience with something like this?
Or any suggestions?

Greetz, Koen

Is the strike going to affect the airline, or are you just concerned about getting to the airport? If the latter, you could always find a hotel near the airport and arrive the night before.

Umm, well there is a difference between missing a flight and a flight that is cancelled. If you 'miss it' then it is your problem and the airline will not put you on another flight the next day for free. If the flight is cancelled then it is correct to say that usually they will put you on the next available flight for free.

So the question by libbyh becomes the key to answering you.

My guess is that if you miss the flight because of a strike on the ground you won't get another one free - if the strike is at the airport or airline, that's a different issue as in that case the airline is unable to get you to your destination so it's their responsibility to get you on a different flight.

So as above - if your concern is about getting to the airport due to ground strikes, get there the day before. or take a taxi.
