hello everyone,

i am planning to be in Brazil for the world cup in 2014 and i am going to have to do it on a shoe string budget. i need any and all advice i am fluent in spanish and will begin my journey in mexico (michoacan) and work my way down to brazil begining in late january 2014 i fly into mexico. i want to know whats the cheapest way to get down to brazil i have an osprey 65L pack and i need to know what i should take with me and wearther or not i should bring a tent along for camping instead of going to hostels or if a tent will even be worth taking. i want to visit as many countries on the way down there i do not have a problem hitch hiking or walking through a jungle/dessert to get to where i need to go if its cheaper than paying $500+ for an air plane ticket as of right now i will be traveling alone.. any advise would really help me out i am open to any and all ideas

thanks
-Tony

There is no safe land route from Panama to Colombia. You can boat from Panama to Colombia but that's at least 3 days and minimum $300 US. There aren't a lot of budget airlines in the Americas but you could check Spirit, TACA or Jet Blue for one flight or LAN for an airpass.

There are commercial boats, I found this website pretty useful http://www.mamallena.com/sailboats-to-cartagena.html

Hi Jackal_84!

Welcome to TT!

I don't think you'll make it cheaper than 500, I guess US, $. Overland would be more fun though. But if you are in a budget, just fly it.

P.S.: You could get more info about overland travel in the Central America branch (for the leg from Mexico to Panama as well as for info about surface transport from Panama to Colombia) and in the South America branch (from the leg from Colombia to Brazil) so you could consider to ask about it in those branches.
