ah, 'make money fast' - an internet classic!

seriously - you've booked a holiday you can't afford, and you shouldn't have done that; didn't you do the sums? Best suggestion is to delay the flight if the ticket allows to give you more time to save up. If the ticket doesn't allow you to delay the first flight (and many don't) you'll just have to change the later ones and cut the trip shorter so you do have enough money.

If you don't have the money obviously your trip is going to have to be shorter. Plan to skip the expensive destinations (from other threads I see New York is one) and concentrate on cheaper places - are you going to SE Asia, as well as India? Australia and New Zealand are also expensive, but if you have WHV for those places you will be able to work there and maybe save a little money (but probably not much). Where are you actually planning to go? And how much money do you actually have?

Why would you go on a round the world trip when you can't afford it? This is outright irresponsible and very foolish.

Don't you take your safety and well being into consideration? If your trip is 6 months long, and you only have enough money for food for 1 month what are you going to do the other 5 months?

You should reschedule your flights for another time say in 6 months - a year down the road when you can AFFORD it.

Of course postponing the whole thing is the best idea if possible. But you mentioned somewhere else that you would be travelling with your boyfriend. Is he also skint, or might he be good for a loan? Or any rich aunties, uncles or family members who might contribute, either as a gift or a loan? That's your only real hope for quick money.

No tips other than to work as much overtime as you can for the next two weeks and see if you can persuade any relatives to loan or give you money.

I think you best bet is to shorten the trip, or if you are determined to go for 6 months, postpone it until you can afford it. Hopefully you will be able to afford it some time soon, despite not really giving the impression of having a firm grasp on financial matters. (Sorry to be harsh, but I know people twice your age who have the same problems, so it will be good if you can learn a lesson from this.)

What - you only realized 2 weeks before you were due to leave that you had insufficient funds??????
I think you should postpone your trip until you become more responsible with money.

Ah to be young and foolish again...

But seriously, if you're "serious" about a world trip the first thing you should do is check out where you can travel AND work! I know this was a big thing when I was in my 20s, and I think I recall a seeing a few jobs out there.

It used to be you could find jobs on bulletin boards in hostels, mostly farmhand stuff, but I would think you could probably find some online now a days. FYI, some religious organizations are always looking for people to volunteer in other countries, and throw in free room and board in exchange for your sweat. It's not a tour, but think of the experience!!!

The best advice I can give you is postpone your trip, if possible. Also, DO YOUR TRAVELER'S HOMEWORK!!! Some countries require work visas/permits, even if you're just "passing through".

Good Luck.

Haha thank you all, despite the negative responses. Contrary to what you are all saying I have been very careful and budgeting for the past two years in order to save enough. I am not severely under what I need so can have a good time and it will work if i scrape out there, which I dont mind, as after all im on my gap year and thats how we do it.
I was merely posting for some helpful responses about last minute jobs in England, such as any festivals people know about which they need last minute help? I did one in Summer before I was due to pay flights and it worked out so so helpful!
I think before each of you start calling me irresponsible/foolish and many more names when it comes to money, it is a bit far fetched considering you know nothing of the work I have been previously doing and why I am suddenly looking for last minute things. Its simply because I finished a Christmas temp job last week as they realised they didn't need me, despite saying originally they'd keep me on throughout January, so as you can expect this has left me on a loose end as it means 3 weeks less of work which I had previously included in my budget as an extra 750 pounds which would have been such a help!

I will of course cut the trip short if i run out of money, and i wouldnt put my health, but most importantly my boyfriends health on the line, but obviously i would love to prevent this happening so was looking for kind words of wisdom from you more experienced travellers! I have of course calculated the amount we'd need each month, including the different prices in various countries. Luckily we are only in New York for 3 days, and although we are going to Australia half my family is Australian so we have relatives to stay with which is lucky considering Sydney's prices at the moment!!

Thank you all though as I have seen your concern and will consider your options!
Jess.

Jess... It seems time to confront this foolishness...You both, do not need to consider on the road health issues...You personaly seem to be dealing with a mental health issue ! Your stated Tour plan & cash in hand will not sustain you across the United States... Let alone on to Austraila where the intent seems to be sponging off "family". OP. you have wasted our collective time here. ...Please get a job & be welcomed back (after therapy) when you and "boyfriend" are over 21...carracar
