Hi me and my girlfriend are planning on going travelling in europe for a month! We have already planned are tickets which will be the InterRail Global Pass 1 month. With them payed for this leaves us with about £900 for hostels and camping and eating very cheaply. Will this Be enough is my question? With are tickets we wont have to worry about paying extra on travel. Maybe some extra advice off anyone with some tips on cheap places or if were doing something wrong woulde be a great help! Thx for reading.

30 days on £900 is £30 per day. Is that each? If so, it's just doable, if it's for both of you it isn't. At £50 each per day you would be a lot more comfortable. There is a difference between surviving and enjoying your time.

You bought the train pass already?

Museums can cost 10 Euro.

Why just survive there. You won´t enjoy that much. Poverty works better at home.

Keep in mind that (at least to my memory) some trains in Europe require a seat reservation (some TGVs in france etc.), which can be expensive.

My first word in Spanish was actually "supplemento" because we had to pay a supplement in almost every train, although we had an Interrail ticket (quite a while ago though)

I think you will a hard time staying to your budget anyway.

If that £900 = 30 days then you've got £30 (€38) per day. If thats between you (ie not each) I don't see how its possible. You can reckon on a minimum of €15 each for hostels which leaves, at most, €8 for everything else.

Either get more money, postpone your trip or cut down on the amount of time you are away for.

hi, i am from nz, so have found prices in europe horrific! it has been hard to stick within budget, and i ALWAYS find myself going over it.

some mistakes i made at first though were going to things like art museums. i dont really like art all that much, so why pay a 6€ entry fee? if you like art, it´s worth it, but for me, it was a waste of precious money.

so a tip, think about what you actually want to see in a city. for me it is the architechture. walking around cities and looking at the gorgeous buildings is free, and that is what i love doing.

seeing gorgeous buildings from the inside means you usually have to pay the entry fee. churches are usually free, and absolutely breath taking. im not religous but have seen HEAPS of churches in europe.

paris and london are REALLY expensive. eastern europe is cheaper so you may be able to make your money go a bit further there.

use www.hostelworld.com which is great for comparing hostels and booking them after using it for two or three bookings the €1.50 booking fee is waived from then on. look for hostels with the things you need, not just the price. some of them include breakfast too, which is great. some include sheets, at some you may have to hire them if you dont have your own.

and last but not least WATCH YOUR PENNIES AND THE POUNDS WILL LOOK AFTER THEMSELVES!!!!

have fun & good luck :)

Daniellefromnz, you gave some good advice and offered a first hand account of how you found things. The only thing you neglected to mention is WHAT BUDGET you were trying to live on. Given the OP's question, don't you think s/he would like to know what you found livable in terms of the budget s/he has proposed of €30 per day?
