FIRST TIME TRAVELLERS -NEED ADVICE ON WHERE TO GO AND HOW MUCH WILL COST
My sister and I (21yr, 18yr) will be leaving for our RTW trip if FEB 08 (backpacking-staying at hostels), we first head to LA (2weeks) from melbourne then travel to New York (4 days), then onto UK for 3months. March we will stay in relatives accomodation and do the sightseeing there while in London. Apr-May will be working in the UK -not sure yet was thinking out of london so its cheaper to survive. Will do some casual work, approx 180-200 pounds per week, ive seen accomodation advertised on gumtree approx 100-120pounds for 2 ppl.
From June-Sept (4months) we want to travel to Amsterdam, Germany (which part Berlin or Munich? plz help), Czech Republic (Prague), Austria, Croatia, Italy (which part? help), France (which part, help?), Spain, Greek Islands(which are the best for young ppl) and Turkey. I have budgeted approx $100AUST p/day p/p, approx 63 euros per day. so approx 126euros between the two of us per day.
Will this be enough to be able to stay at hostels, eat cheap supermarket food, a few attractions, and maybe go out a bit of a night time.
Anyone that has done this all before and any words of advice will be awesome.
Thanks Heaps

I travel on €35 a day, Railway Tickets not included, € 63 will allow you a few luxuries.
If you want to save money go to eastern europe, I hardly recommend you not just to go where all the
tourists from english speaking countires go (which is basically: Amsterdam, Prague, Barcelona,Paris or Rome ), but to go a bit off the beaten track.
(What about Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Sicily, Northern Spain ?)

Go to Poland!! Krakow, Gdansk, Zakopane... very beautiful and not very expensive. More worth then London!!!

Greek islands ,Dodecanese ,Rhodes ,Leros ,Symi ,Patmos ,cyclades islands ,Ios ,Paros ,Naxos ,Ionian islands Corfu and Kefalonia and of course Crete.

Hi
Do you have a WH visa for the UK? Otherwise you'll find it quite difficult to get work - the days of 'under the table' working are pretty much over here as there are thousands of legal immigrants from the new EU countries that work for terribly low wages.
that might have been a bit harsh... lol
please!.. use any other guidebook than Rick Steves.
or... even no guidebook... would be preferable...

Nicole, get yourself the Lonely Planet Europe on a Shoestring. Between that and asking the help of the knowledgeable people here, you should be set.
Definately get yourself a working holiday visa for the UK. I have 4 weeks to go here, and I wouldn't have had a job without the right visa.
Out of London is a great idea, its like £20 pppn just for a hostel bunk bed. Not a cheap place at all, but great to visit. I am in Nottingham and paying much less for everything, including public transport.
Good luck.

yes i think i will def have to get a working visa, if i do this, does that mean i have to have a employer lined up already so it gets approved? how does the process work, im a bit confused. my other option is applying for the ancestory visa, but im not sure which one would better suit for my situation. any advice will be great.
ps. thanks guys for the money advice...
Be sure to buy Eeurope...Shoestring b4 you leave home. Its great!
I´ve never seen it on sale in Europe. They´d miss out on selling too many other LP books.
But use Rick Steves money belt (as I say ad nauseum.)
www.ricksteves.com<BR>There´s a big underground market for stolen passports.
And yes. God would allow it. And does.
boogidy boogidy boogidy....
