Hey guys, I'm in South America at the moment and I'm planning on making my way back to the UK via Australia, Asia and maybe some other places around April-Sept this year.

So I don't need a full round-the-world ticket but would like a flexible ticket that lets me stop off on the way back to the UK and can change dates etc.

Anyone know where's a good place to buy a ticket like this? Or will a round-the-world ticket still be the cheapest option even though I'm skipping the atlantic bit?

Thanks for the help :)
Tom

The only direct flights from South America to Australia are with Aerolíneas Argentinas, LAN or Qantas. That leg will probably the most expensive one. Once in Australia, you can make your way to the UK using low-cost airlines and including overland legs if you want/need. But if you want to make it (really) cheap, with low-cost airlines, you should book early and date changes aren't an option...
Take a look at the web of Oneworld (an airline alliance that includes among its members LAN and Qantas) to see if they have some sort of fare that could be fine for your interests.

Don't ignore the RTW ticket option entirely - given that you have a very limited time and want to make stops in Australia and Asia it might actually end up cheaper to get a RTW ticket and just forget about the final flight back to S. America (or, who knows you might even be able to use it the following April just before it expires). I'm not saying this is definitely the case but an option to consider.
