Best place to keep your valuables?

I sewed an extra sock to the inside of a pair of pants, just above the knee, for cards and large amounts of cash. Too far to simply reach down into! I also had a watertight bag just large enough for all cards, cash, passport, iPhone and my backup USB stick, which I could take with me while showering, swimming, etc. The rest, like my real camera, I'd leave in my backpack in a (locked) locker, even if I was just running out of the room for 5 mins. The two things I'd hate most to lose are my photos and my passport, in that order.

The only time I have heard of anything stolen at a hostel is because the owner left it on the bed while out of the room. Enough said. I use money belt for extra money, passport, emergency credit card and atm cards. I wear it all the time......only comes off in the shower and there I hang it next to me on a hook.

Do you think money belts are slowly fizzling out?

I've never checked. All I know is my Rick Steves cheapo has worked for about ten years. Washable. I don't notice the bulge. a la directions. My paper plane ticket, would curl along belly fold after a while.

But no mas paper tickets.
