Hello,
Just wanted to get any thoughts on the following itinerary. I am travelling via train and havent decided yet if point to point or Eurail is the best option?:
20th Sept - Arrive Frankfurt, 23rd Oct - Depart Rome
Arrive Frankfurt 8.30pm, night train to Prague departs 11.38pm
Prague - 3 nights
Cesky Krumlov - 2 nights
Munich - 2 nights - Oktoberfest, booked in and cant change dates
Fussen - 3 nights
Salzburg - 3 nights - inc day trip to Berchtesgaden
Night train to Paris - 4 nights
Nice - 3 nights
Cinque Terre - 4 nights
Venice - 3 nights
Rome - 5 nights - inc day trip to Pompeii
A couple of questions i have though -
My flight arrives in Frankfurt 8.30pm, the night train to Prague departs 11.38pm. Is this enough time to get from the airport to catch the train? Is it possible to reserve a sleeper from Australia or would i be ok to do this prior to boarding the train?
I feel as if i am missing out on some places - would love to go to Switzerland, more of France (perhaps Aix en Provence or Beaune) and more Italy (Florence) but is this itinerary going to be pushing it to fit in more?
Do i have too many places or are there any that I have missed that should be included?
Many thanks for any responses!!

If your flight arrives punctually you'll have plenty of time but if it doesn't ................................

Personally, I think I'd book a hotel overnight in Frankfurt and get the train to Prague next morning, fresh and able to enjoy the view.

If you need a Ticket see: www.nachtzugreise.de, also available in English.
At the moment there are still tickets from € 29, non exchangeable, non refundeable, so if your flight is late.....
Otherwise you can just hop on the train and buy the supplement for the sleeper there,
but you should get your ticket before.
There is no Night train from Salzburg to Paris anymore, it was last running 10.6.07
You will have to travel back to Munich (1 1/2 hours) and take the night train from there
2 Nights in Cesky Krumlov is too much, one will do it, you could also do it as a daytrip from Praha.
Get all the Tickets for the Czech Republic in the CzechRepublic it will be about half the price.

Hi!
If you want to fit Florence (or Aix) into your itinerary, I think you could reduce your time in Fuessen or
the Cinque Terre, or both. Fuessen is a beautiful little town and the castles are well worth visiting (although they
will be crowded) but you don't need 3 nights there - 1 or 2 would be enough. Cinque Terre could also be cut back to
2 nights - and you'll still have plenty of time to visit all the villages.
Hope you have a great trip! :-)

Thanks guys!
I think we will reshuffle a few days in Cesky Krumlov, Fuessen and Cinqe Terre to fit in a few nights in Aix. The Geneva train through the Alps sounds awesome too qwovadis.
I also think we might pre book tickets on the Frankfurt -> Prague night train and hope that the plane arrives on time. At the moment I am thinking spending the night on the sleeper train and arriving in Prague first thing in the morning will work out a lot better than staying in Frankfurt the night, getting the train early in the morning then arriving in Prague late afternoon/early evening. I do have a couple of months yet until we leave, so my ideas may change yet!
Anyone have any personal recommendations for budget hotels/hostels for any of these locations? We are two 29 year old girls, not really into staying awake all night partying or hearing other people snore, so i guess that means no dorm rooms! :) any advice much appreciated.
Thanks again!

#3 - I think there's far more to do in Cesky Krumlov. Plus doing it in a day trip would be difficult. The bus, from memory, took about three horus.
We spent 4 nights in Cesky in January 2006 and it was wonderful. There aren't a lot of tourist sights but it's a cool place to hang out in. In summer you could go swimming in the river. There are loads of great restaurants and bars. It's just a great place to hang out in. Up with San Gimigianino as my favourite small town in Europe.

If you shorten the stay in Venice (or even skip it) you could spend a few days in Firenze and see also Siena, San Gimignano or Lucca.
Rome: very beautiful, 5 days is perfect! You can consider visiting Ostia Antica instead of travelling all the way just to see Pompei.
If you feel like seeing more of France: you can visit small towns in the surroundings of Nice like Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
Check out twizi.com for cheap hostels (with private rooms!!).
Just see where you'll end up if you follow your heart and the advice of the locals!
