We are travelling with 3kids to Europe in April school holidays for 3 weeks. The last week is in Budapest, and that is fixed. What do people recommend doing for 2 weeks before that?
We have taken Eurostar around Italy before because we were worried about driving.
1)Is it easier to drive around Hungary, Chech, Austria than Italy in terms of the roads not being as busy?
2)Are trains as efficient as Italy? Are we better off driving or taking trains?
3)Italy was pretty concentrated sightseeing which we really enjoyed. Are we better off going around Chech republic and maybe even Switzerland or Austria, or should we fly somewhere like Paris and then fly to Prague, stay there for a week but take local train trips to local towns and then take a train to Budapest which will be our last stop?
Thanks to everyone that can help.

1.no, roads are ofen much worse, traffic OUIT of cities tends to be lighter, IN the big cities not at all
2. IT trains are in fact in the wole of EUr RENOWNED for delays, slack service and general cheapness. this except the euro-star It, which only does 1 major route. in CZ/HU trains are even cheaper, MUCH lower stdd re type of cars and always bang on time. seat61.com has a rather over-optimisic view of them

Thanks for replies to both of you.
When we took the 3 kids to Italy we had a very busy holiday, they were truly occupied with art galleries and museums. Is the holiday to Czech republic, Budapest and Vienna (and surrounds) going to be as culture intense, or are we better off going to Spain/Portugal and taking trains like we did in Italy?
