The only advice I can give you is: Stick to the UK, Europe, or Asia if you want to work/travel. If you want to come to the U.S. as a tourist, it'll be a short vacation for you and more debt. Everything here is expensive, poor quality, and not much of whatever you get. If you want a decent hotel or place to stay, it'll cost you around $70 (USD)- $100 (USD) per night. Food will be about $15 (USD)/per person/per meal if you stick to the value menu. $40 (USD) and up for a moderately nice "italian" restaurant. You will need a car, unless you stay in a major city like Chicago or New York City. Gas (petrol) averages in the U.S. at $3.40 (USD) a gallon for regular. The average car has a 14 gal. tank. If you have a decent income, you could have a pretty good trip but you could go somewhere better than here and get more for your money. Minus the ex in option 1....in my opinion option 1 is better.

I got into massive debt and still currently paying it off.

Before anything else, pay your debt off first. All of it. Then save up and think about travelling.

Work 2 jobs and get that debt millstone from around your neck.
I haven't paid on the never never since 1962. Didn't need that ring for long anyway.

Make amens b4 you leave on your trip.
That stuff can weigh you down anywhere.

Next time you travel only take a debit card. Work and save for your next trip, and don't bite off more than you can chew. Working overseas is just that - working - and wouldn't you rather just have a good travelling holiday? Backpacking can be done on the (relative)cheap.

Working in other countries is a reward in itself. A chance to make friends from all over the world.

But we shouldn't expect to travel far from it. For one thing, we make barely enough to squeek by. Like normal people there.
But you'll have a home. Or at least a shared room. yuk

I didn't mean to head back to Western Oz. But Cockatoo Island iron pre quarry is there. Just had to do it again.

A young German I worked with there, said he just got back from six months on Timor. Then bought dug-out canoes and horses, along the way,. Till he got to Jakarta. His old travel mate got discovered in Japan and worked in movies thereafter.

*see profile.

But I had the most low bottom monkey jobs, because I had no education. Many years later, at 37 yo. I finally went to college. God what a different world than I thought we had.
