A couple of years ago I started a travel blog based on my experiences. I have been travelling the world for years and did the blog as a response to people I knew who thought independent travel to "places unlike home" would be difficult (and probably unrewarding). So my objective was to encourage others to try it and also to ease the way. My focus was on itineraries and 'how-to'.

In March 2011, I changed my efforts from a blog to a monthly 'on-line travel magazine' where I feature experiences and advice of other travellers, whom I interview. It is a lot of work but rewarding and I have learned alot.

I am increasingly trying to 'layer' information on a particular destination to provide the visiter with some "depth".

I never planned to include my own country (Canada) but backcounty Canada is very popular and I have many contacts who hike, canoe and climb so it made sense to include articles on this.

I am a serious gardener so now include a column each month on the 'gardens of the world' which also receives a lot of visitors.

A sister of mine does voter education in countries around the world where few tourists go so each month I include one of these destinations because the information out there is usually scarce.

These are early days, but that has been my approach (which keeps evolving).
