Hello, fellow Thorns!

I've been seriously loving this forum over the past six months, and it's been a great resource for zeroing in on my future travels. After lurking for a while, I felt it was an appropriate time to share an unusual project I've been working on since 2005.

ShortWaveMusic is my blog/repository for regional and folkloric music recorded around the world via shortwave radio. Every year I travel to a new country and spend two weeks with a brace of radios and microphones, tuning in on local transmissions and casting my net out to wider parts of the globe. I've logged hundreds of hours of music from every continent in wildly eclectic styles, from Chinese opera and Iranian folk-pop to Ethiopian jazz and Russian art song, all of which I've preserved on my blog along with detailed broadcast information.

If your love of travel also includes an obsession with the crazily diverse world of music, I hope you'll stop by and check it out. I'm gearing up to launch my sixth season featuring recordings made in the United Arab Emirates, and I'll be heading out to Burkina Faso and Ghana in 2012.

Hope to see you all out and about someday!
