If you’re looking for a relaxing Greek destination away from the big resorts and heaving crowds, you might be pleasantly surprised with Parga. Before I went, not one person I spoke to had heard of Parga …which made me think I might have discovered a perfect retreat, and I wasn’t wrong.

Parga sits within the North Western region of Preveza in Epirusand it is an very picture book pretty region of mainland Greece.

If you need to tone your legs and bum, go to Parga. The pebbles on Valtos beach will give you an intense work out along with the walk to and from Parga town. By the time you get home everything will be super tight!

Cobbled alleys and winding lanes lead you upwards from Valtos beach and down into the main town so give the stiletto heels a miss! https://wp.me/p6bkil-4AK

It’s definitely a cat haven in Parga, cats rule here and you will likely come across many with their litter of kittens when you’re out and about the main streets and quieter lanes.

Mopeds and motorcycles seemed to be the main mode of transpor, especially around the quieter streets. The elderly and young will zoom past you as you venture out and about.

Valtos Beach hotel is a small family run resort daintily placed in a mountain hill surrounded by lemon and olive trees with fabulously relaxing views onto the bay, ocean and nearby castle. https://wp.me/p6bkil-4Ar

As with most businesses around Parga – it’s a family thing, and you will see names of families hung up outside restaurants and cafes around the town. Valtos Beach Hotel appeared to be a tight ship with mum and dad still rolling up their sleeves and remaining in the thick of things – they went out of their way to talk to all guests and make everyone feel welcome, and said a personal thank you/goodbye to each guest before we left with a wave off!

The smell of fresh flowers permeates the grounds of the hotel, adding to a botanical garden feeling, along with the chatter of the birds.

There’s no such thing as a small portion; if you’re on a diet – don’t go to Parga, it seems customary to pile your plates!
