Destination: Parque Pumalin, Chilean Patagonia
Context: Though my body was tired, my heart was heavy for leaving Pumalin Park after such a short time in the area. So few travel days, so many volcanoes to climb.

On the road in Central Asia, the Silk Road, and beyond at MonkBoughtLunch and posting photos at StephenLioy.com. Come say hi!

Destination: Burj Khalifa, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Context: This is the view from the 148th floor of the tallest building in the world (at the time of posting ;-) ) Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It shows the contrast of this city built in the desert with the modern skyscrapers in the front against the old Dubai and the port in the back of the photo.

Destination: Palais des Nations, European UN headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland
Context: A guided tour of the Palais des Nations, which serves as European headquarters of the UN in Geneva, Switzerland, took us around this old building built in 1930's facing the Geneva lake Lac Leman. This picture has been taken from a window in the right wing overlooking a square, main building with meeting rooms and the left wing of the building with a huge library.

Destination: Blagaj, Bosnia & Herzegovina
Context: The Dervish Monastery of Blagaj Tekija is hidden in the mountains near Mostar, but it was well worth the effort to find this secret spot and capture this incredible scenery!

Destination: India's Thar Desert, outside Jaisalmer
Context: I love camping in the Thar Desert - one of my favorite places in the world. The light at sunset and sunrise is spectacular, especially when you can combine it with the people and colors of India. I usually travel with my kids, but I have a cousin in Spain who I meet up with somewhere in the world every year just to travel around and photograph. This was on our annual trip.

Destination: Khao San Road in Bangkok
Context: Pictures of everyday life are my favorite. This woman is paying no attention to the man behind the camera who is so excited to be in her city. She does not share that same excitement and is just going about her daily routine.

Context: Lonely Planet has used images from Angkor Wat for their Cambodia guidebook covers over the years. While on an Intrepid Travel tour earlier this month, our guide offered to take everyone's picture nose to nose....and mine's bigger!!

Destination: Battambang, Cambodia
Context: "Rats" is a Pearl Jam song, but it's also a roadside snack in Battambang. Henry Rollins once discussed eating fried rat in India, and I finally saw grilled rat earlier this month. Add some greens and you can have a "Rat Salad" (like the Black Sabbath song)!

Destination: Soysambu Conservancy, Kenya
Context: There aren't many shady spots across the African savannah, though this crafty giraffe managed to find one beneath a giant cactus. I was volunteering at the Soysambu Wildlife Conservancy, monitoring endangered and threatened species. There's nothing like waking up each day, being surrounded by African animals when you venture outdoors. Kenya is one of those places that you must visit in your lifetime.
