Backpacking around the world for years I finally decided to share some of the fantastic experiences through an own blog. The ambition is to share the high quality photographies combined with interesting, surprising & teaching thoughts around them.

Michael's World Through The Lens [http://www.mwttl.com]</strong>

It's my attempt to create something contrasting to the majority of pages sharing only snapshots. Feedback more than welcome!
Which top 3 travel photography blogs are you following?

Michael

Don't know of any...

One thing I don't like is the overuse of special effects in photos...especially the fad for HDR...

Taken in small doses...HDR is fine... But over and over again...with all the surrealism... It gets boring fast...!

Its like a box of chocolates...one piece is fine...but eating the whole box will make you sick...!

But then I LOATH landscapes...! What a bore that thin line between the sky and the ground at the horizon...!

And the traditional travel photo of......"Here's me standing in front of___".... has limited appeal outside of friends and family...

Cameras lie...photographs are all lies... Video is better because it captures everything...its hyper-real... Video shows real life which is noisy and chaotic...someone always sneezes in the museum...or kids start screaming in front of the Mona Lisa...! That's reality...that the still camera misses...

I think great photos are done by people with a good artistic sense...who just get lucky ... Studied and planned photos bore me... And an expensive camera in the hands of a fool is useless...

Hi Vasenka,

you are right, great travel photography blogs have nothing to do with snapshots like "Here is me jumping off the waterfall in Guatemala".
What I am doing since more than half a year on MWTTL: I select some good shots and think back of what I learned, saw, experienced at the respective part of the world. Writing those posts is actually a lot of fun and the feedback from around the world is very encouraging.

You mentioned video. I just came back from Kathmandu where I talked to some backpackers who were filming quite a lot. They confirmed that especially the recorded sounds make the results very valuable to them.

Michael! Good question, here are my favourites...

1) http://roadsandkingdoms.com/ - Photography blog, reportage and more

2) http://jon-siegel.com/ - Super talented photographer, mainly portraits and candid shots from Singapore and Tokyo

3) http://bottlemusic.tumblr.com/ - Great blog about life in South Korea, focus on food

Honorable mention: http://www.everythingisdirty.com/ - photo blog covering a lot of Asia, unfortunately it hasn't been updated in ages but it's worth checking out anyway for the archived posts

And if thats not enough for you then have a browse of my flickr favourites (none of my own photos) http://www.flickr.com/photos/america098898/favorites/

Hi! I recently started a travel photography blog, mostly on my trips around the south east asian region. I try to post at least a picture a day, from the travels I made for the last 3 years.
