Hi! So, we are vacating our house in California BEFORE we settle on a new spot to live. We're in the midst of travel and so my husband is going back to U.S. to deal with this (leave me and 2 children in Malaysia).

I'm having a HARD TIME figuring out logistics.

We are thinking one of those portable storage places -- Door 2 Door or PS -- to put our stuff in so they can store it for another 5 months until we decide where to live but THEN we need the stuff shipped to us to timbuctoo, somewhere…

Ok, so this question is totally broad.....I know and I apologize, but I would like to get people's input on teaching English in South Korea. After realizing that I have not and probably will never lose my travel bug, but do have to work and make money, this seems like a pretty good scenario........the money seems good, the jobs seem legit and it seems like a good experience!

Now....

  1. How was your experience teaching?
  2. Were you certified prior to travelling?
  3. Would you recommend Seoul?

I have been living away from my home town for 11 years - and have been overseas for 4 of these years.

A friend from my home town visited recently and instead of enjoying the experience, I felt miserable afterwards. I felt she had viewed my new life with a critical eye - judging every aspect of my lifestyle, and criticising new words I use, new friends etc. I am very happy with my decision to live abroad, and she is struggling with a few choices she has made.

On the whole we are both worldly…

I realize this is extremely naive.

But can someone explain expatriotism to me?

Is an expatriate a person who happens to have a job in a country other then their own? Or is expatriotism more the result of someone unexpectedly simply NOT coming home from a travel... someone who cancels their return ticket because they're happy whereever they are?

What's the psychology behind this? What is the adaptation for this like?

I just find this extremely interesting... any insights you can provide…

What Training Class Certificate (120 hr, 4 week with practice teaching) is best for getting jobs worldwide? What about in Korea, Vietnam or Eastern Europe?

Thanks for any ideas.

I plan on spending the next year traveling around and volunteering. Are there any volunteer programs that people can recommend? I have been thinking about Cross Cultural Solutions, Projects Abroad and I-to-I Meaningful Travel, but as there is a big difference in price amongst the programs, it makes me a bit concerned. Thanks!
