I am a teacher who is considering a move to the UK to start my teaching career.

My wife is bilingual Human resources and we have a young son (less than a year old). Because her grandparent is from Ireland, chances are that I can acquire Irish citizenship.

I know that there are a few agencies out there that help teachers in Canada and the U.S. get placed, which ones are reputable?

Dear All,

At the age of 30 and after working for 5 years for the same company as a software engineer and manager (almost an eternity in IT!), I've just had a change of circumstances and am considering putting my IT career on hold for between 6 months and a year to go backpacking and travelling in Central Europe, Asia and Australia. Although I do travel in my job occasionally (Western Europe and North Africa), some extended travel to see places, learn skills and experience new things is…

Hi all!

I'm preparing to go to Cardiff, in the U.K. for this year, September to December. I'll be doing research for my PhD while there, and so will mostly be staying in the city, without much hiking or other strenuous activities (though I do plan on seeing some sights while there!).

I've traveled for similar lengths of time before, but that was field work, which meant I could pack five grungy outfits and wear them over and over again. This time, I'll need to look a bit more professional. Does…

I am an American and have lived for extended stays (6 months to 5 years each) in Rome, Tokyo, Prague, Paris, Lisbon, Madrid, Brussels, Cairo, Puerto Rico...I think that's it. And I've traveled to over 40 countries (probably not a lot for this forum!) After 5 years in NYC I have an opportunity to work from anywhere in the world I choose.

Right now I'm staying with my sister and her husband here in Bali but they're leaving at the end of the year so I need to figure out my next place. I'm looking…

Greetings:

I am in Canada now on vacation but I live most of the year in Saudi Arabia with my wife. Life there is OK but watching TV there can be a pain. We can’t watch up-to-date British, American or Canadian TV programs because we live overseas. Can’t change our IP number because the Saudis got all the sites where you can do that blocked. While in Canada, can I download any software off the Internet that I can use in Saudi Arabia to help me watch up-to-date programs on the BBC or American or…

First, I'm a total newb to international travel. So, if you suspect I'm being dumb or naive or setting myself up to be taken hostage by communist guerillas, please pipe in. Worse, I may also be American, so you have been warned.

I'm looking in the near future, probably starting in December this year, to begin traveling abroad. What I'd like to do is travel widely by renting an apartment or hotel room in each country I visit for a single month. Trying to keep this around $1000 to $1500 per…

Can anyone recommend a good way to ship a couple of sizable boxes from London to Los Angeles?

They're quite heavy, since the contents are mostly books, shoes, etc.

The UK Post Office website is unclear, but I guess their prices are per-kilo, rounded to a half-kilo. They range from 22.2-37GBP/KG, based on delivery option selected. That's very expensive, since my stuff is probably >50KG, that's going to be 1000-2000GBP!

If you have a suggestion, maybe also state whether you have used it…

Hi, we are a husband and wife soon to travel to South America. We are looking to work in a local community to help them turn traditional skills into products and/or their traditional products into a business that can support their local community!

We are business and marketing professionals (one of us with an MBA) in our mid-30s with experience in retail, buying/sourcing and manufacturing (and even jewelry-making) and a litle bit of Spanish (although currently working on that). We have 20…

I am Australian and I was wondering if it is possible to start a chef apprenticeship in the UK on a working holiday visa? As there is usually study involved would a study visa be required, or would it be considered working?
