I have a few questions regarding TEFL courses and teaching English overseas, specifically SE Asia. Basically, I spent a few months in SE Asia last winter during a backpacking session, and instantly fell in love with it. I loved the culture, the people, the Asia-drawn expats and travellers, the history, everything. After a few months of thinking it over, I decided to sell my major possessions back here in Canada with the intentions of spending the next few years of my life living and travelling…

As a traveler in her early 20's, I've wondered about this for some time now: What was it like to travel before the age of technology? Before the age of internet, cell phones, and VoIP?

I am currently working and living for one year in Tunisia, and although I get homesick for my family, lifestyle, and culture at times, I realize I can usually find a fix by checking the news on the internet, downloading my favorite music/movies, chatting with my friends on Skype, using the ubiquitous Facebook…

I'm really digging the idea of teaching at an international school abroad. I'm in my first year teaching and most schools want 2 years of teaching. So I thought I had decided to stick around for another year... but I don't know that I can! haha So now I'm having the idea of going to Costa Rica and teaching there for a year first. I lived there for a year so I know the territory and still have friends down there so I know they could help me out. After that, I would like to try to teach at an…

I was asked this question recently in a job interview for a position requiring international travel and I'm curious how other people would deal with this situation: You go on a site visit with a senior local partner, but all the people at the project site ignore their compatriot and direct their questions to you, the foreigner, expecting you to have all the answers. You can sense that this is creating tension between you and your local partner. How do you react both during the event and…

Hello!

I've skimmed about 50 pages of the content of this forum area going back to early 2008 if I remember correctly.

It seems like there are a lot of people going abroad to teach or who continue there online businesses but few of the people that do something else seems to write about it willingly so it would be very interesting to hear more about what they are doing.

Naturally it would be nice to hear from the people who teach or work over the net as well!

I my self haven't worked abroad…

has anyone done the CELTA program in Ecuador (guayaquil)?

i plan on teaching in Colombia starting in August. Im planning on getting CELTA certified in May.

im worried about staying in Colombia to long (3 months if i do CELTA in Bogota) before i get a job in August because with a tourist visa you are only allowed to be in Colombia for 6 months max and im not guaranteed to get a work visa if i get a job.

I know Bogota is better than Guayaquil but Ive never been there and wouldnt plan on coming…

Haven't been here in a while, but I don't notice any new posts or topics like that. I've been visiting Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree since 1998 on and off. I have long gaps in between my visits. You used to see people saying how they come back home, work for a while, then hit the road. It would be interesting to see where those people are now. Are they still doing it? Surely, there must come a time when it ends. How can you keep going on like that? What if you get sick, don't you want a stable…

I currently live in Canada and have both Canadian and Swiss passeport. We have a family house in Switzerland that we would like to transfer the proprety to me from my parents.
Does it change anything to my taxes in Canada ? I know there is a question on the tax return form about owing proprety abroad. I am also a homeowner in canada.
Is there anything I should know ?

Hi,

Me and my girlfriend are currently living in Korea but will be moving back to London in March. Before hand though we are going travelling around Indonesia for a month with only a back pack and were wondering what would be the best (cheapest) way to send the rest of stuff back to London before we go as obviously we cant cart it around with us. It will just be mainly cloths and about a suitcases worth each.

Thanks
