Hello, I am after some advice on working in Canada. Currently applying for my IEC working holiday visa! I have recently returned home after a 3month trip in Asia, and it's really sunk in how limited the working opportunities are here in the UK.
Im extremely keen to get away to Canada this October to work and gain experience in the logging industry (my field of interest).
Does anyone have any advice or info on the process on getting involved in the industry?
Thanks in advance!!
EB

Well the logging industry covers a lot of jobs from planting seedlings to selling lumber in a store. So what exactly do you mean by your 'field of interest'?

If you mean work as a lumberjack cutting down trees, loggers today require specific qualifications for just about any job they do. The guy using a chainsaw even has to have a specific certificate that says he knows how to use a chainsaw properly and safely. No certificate, no job.

If there is some specific job in the logging industry you are interested in then you need to research what specific qualifications are required. The days of a strong young back turning up at a logging camp in northern Ontario or BC and getting hired on sight are long gone.

Here is a link that tells you about planting seedlings as a seasonal job. http://www.celticreforestation.com/employees_jobs.htm Note the provide your own equipment list.

There are various employers for this kind of thing.

Hi, Just a heads up, most of Canada has long cold winters and arriving in October isn't necessarily the best time of year. Is there a specific part of Canada or another profession you'd be interested in?
