Hello,
I am a United States citizen looking for a way to move over to France to live and work so I can be with my girlfriend. She is from Monaco and is living in Nice.
I am wondering about visas, and the best way to get one. I have done working holidays in Australia and New Zealand where I have been able to go over without a job and find work upon arrival, but am finding it hard to find something comparable for France. Any Americans (or anybody from a non EU country) out there with advice, tips, leads, or anything that can help me? Do I need a job offer first? Are there visas available that allow me to find work once I get there? I am a certified teacher, what about teaching jobs or language schools? What about studying? Can I work if go over as a student just to take some French language courses or anything?
Any and all advice is appreciated.
Regards,
Brett

How did you get a WHV in Australia as a US citizen? Do you mean the BUNAC program? If you hold a passport from another country as well, that could make a difference. France has a WHV with several countries. If you're a student you may be able to work. Otherwise you'd have to get sponsored by an employer.

You should check out this website. http://www.ccife.org/usa/new_york/
Americans can't do a working holiday visa, but that website has a similar type program available to Americans
Good luck! France is a great country! Also students are allowed to work, even foreign students, as long as they're enrolled in a public University and have a student visa.

#1, I also had a WHV for OZ, years ago that wasn't Bunac, as an American. Its possible, but they don't give out many. As for working in France, I can only offer what I have just done in Belgium. It has been a 7 month, $500 process, but last week I recieved a visa to live in Belgium. Maybe France has something similar. It is called a cohabitation visa, and my girlfriend had to submit bank statements, paystubs, letters saying she would support me until I get set, and a few other things. I also had to provdie many things, like FBI report, doctors report and a few other documents. I found it on Belgiums main diplomatic website in the visa section, check if France has anything similar. I don't know how Monaco changes any of that. Good Luck
