Hi,
My friend in Chile has just applied for a WHV to come to NZ for this year's quota.
The company in Chile that process it for him said he needs to have a credit card that has a $3000USD limit as proof when he enters NZ. Is this true? Could he just have a print out from his Chilean bank account to show $3000 (it's not an account that he can access overseas - but would immigration know this?).
The main problem is that he doesnt have a credit card and can't get one before he leaves Chile.

Would he be best to just bring the $$ in cash?

Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks

Hello,

I have attached the NZ Immigration site for you, it tells you the details of the WHV for NZ, it also has a question and anwser section which may also help answer your question.

Also if I was your friend I would not take the funds over in cash, thats a sure way to have the customs officers interested in you! Bank statements should be OK, but they would need to be org's not print outs. But I would double check with the NZ Immigration office before traveling.

Happy travels, NZ is a lovely country (I am a Kiwi - and wonder why I'm in London weekly)

Thanks Toni,

Yeah I've had a look at the Immigration website - but it doesnt specify the evidence required to "prove" the funds.
and the embassy in Santiago tell him to check the website - and that they won't answer any questions for WHV!

Not sure why customs would really be interested in someone carrying the equivalent of $3000USD - it's well under any "dodgy" amount.

I might see what it says when his online application gets approved - it may be more specific then!

the $3000 in cash won't last long thats why, immigration want proof that there are 'back up' funds available for your friend to leave the country when the visa runs out.
