I'm a Canadian citizen and I also have a British Passport. I've been living in Barcelona now for 18 months. I lived in London 3 years previous to that. I've got it in my mind to make a move to a new city somewhere in the world. I love Barcelona, the food, weather, nightlife and culture. I've picked up a decent amount of Spanish. I work from home (as a programmer) for companies in London and I require internet access. I just can't figure out where to go.

My potential list includes: Florence, Italy; Berlin, Germany; Buenos Aires, Argentina. I'm not set on any of them at the moment. It's possible I will make my way back to London to earn money (since working in-office pays more than remote work). I'll be travelling for most of October I think so I'll want to get somewhere beginning or mid November. If I go to London I'll be going January or February.

I'd like to go to a city with decent culture, nightlife and weather. Anywhere in Europe is fine since I have an EU passport but I'd consider places that are easy to work from home in anywhere in the world. I'll probably spend another 12-18 months wherever I go.

I'm interested in hearing ideas from people on where they would go in my situation. I've got an open mind and a year to live somewhere that will fill me with some culture - where do you think I should go?

Sounds like you can go just about anywhere. I'm in a similar situation - I work from home as a programmer for a company in NYC. I would add Istanbul to the list of places you're considering. The internet connection won't be an issue, and there's definitely no shortage of culture.

Anywhere in the EU won't cause probelms with visas for an extended stay but anytime you consider someplace outside the EU you will need to start to think about how yo get a visa to remain more than 90 days or so.

Good point Ruth. I forgot about Visas. I think for Turkey you can make a Visa run every 90 days to Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus, etc. In any case its less of a hassle to stay in the EU.

Be very aware that the rules are currently in the process of being changed for Turkey and they are heading towards the 90/180 which applies to so many countries. It was introduced on the 1st July then a change was made and it went back on hold until they had sorted out a suitable arrangement for the large number of British/others who own second properties in Turkey and do not wish to purchase residents visas. A purchased residents visa could be an option.

Lucky you to have all those options.

You mention BA - a good choice - but have you considered Quito? Check out the benefits of the city and the country as a whole.
