Hi,
I really want to take a year out from my boring desk job and learn some practical skills. One thing I would love to do is help build homes, either as a volunteer building, eg schools, etc, or assisting somebody in their eco-self-build. I have to stress that Im not doing this to get a "warm, fuzzy" feeling from volunteering. I'm a hardworker and I want to learn the practicalities of housebuilding. I have no prior experience Im afraid.
I've done a few internet searches and finding it difficult to find anything suitable.
Im hoping you guys can come up with some suggestions/ know of any good websites that could give me a few pointers.
Thankyou !

Try Pisco sin Fronteras in Pisco, Peru. this is not a voluntourism outfit which charges big bucks. You might inadvertentenly get a 'warm fuzzy' feeling nonethesless: http://piscosinfronteras.org/

You could also check out Habitat for Humanity and see if they have anything near where you are.

Thanks. I looked at the Habitat for Humanity website and emailed their UK branch but just waiting to hear back from them.
Anybody had any first-hand experience with this org ? Could they offer long-term work ? And any ideas about costs ?
