Does anyone know how long you are required to stay in your home country (Australia) while a UK Work Permit is being considered under an 'out of country' application? I have a WHV that expires on the 20th Jan 2008 and I want to know whether I can go to the UK under this visa and then return to australia to get the stamp or do i even need to??

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm due to fly back on Monday and need to reschedule flights..

Your post is not very clear Dandsham.

You are now in Australia. You have applied for a work permit not a visa. You have a WHV which is about to expire. Is that correct?

First, you can enter the UK as a tourist tomorrow but of course cannot work legally. Your WHV is of no real use to you. Until you get your work permit, you cannot legally work. If you apply from within Australia, then go to the UK next week as a tourist, you will need to return your Passport to Australia to have it stamped. I believe you will have to send your passport to someone who will mail it in from the address you gave on your application and it will be returned to that address. Your family member would then have to mail the passport back to you in the UK. You'd need to leave the UK (to France or whatever) and then re-enter to have your work permit stamped and validated.

The above is only w that I THINK is applicable. You need to contact a High Commission office or an Immigration consultant to be sure. The TT is not really the best place to ask about immigration laws.
