This is a question for you Brits out there who know the UK tax system, as I don´t know much about it myself.
Here is a tax calculator I found online: http://www.listentotaxman.com/
What I am specifically wondering about is whether this calculator would give a realistic/credible estimate of what (at least a UK citizen) would have to pay in tax, in total, during the course of a year. The way I would fill it out is choosing the year 2007, not checking any of the boxes for married etc, no student loan repayment, choosing the under 65 age range, no other allowances/deductions and no tax code simply because I don´t know what if anything to type in those categories! (and lastly, typing in gross income per year).
Does the calculator have any "flaws" in terms of not calculating/accounting for major numbers that would affect the total amount of tax that a citizen would pay?
Would the average person type in anything in the "other allowances/deductions" and "tax code" boxes? What do they mean and do they have a profound impact upon the total tax you would pay?
And finally I wonder about the following issue: Would an EEA citizen (who does not have a UK passport) pay different taxes if working in the UK than would a "native" UK passport citizen?
Thanks a lot in advance to you UK people out there!
